Leviticus 1:1–9

I used to have problems getting my son to clean his room. I would insist that he, “Do it now,” and he would always agree to do so, but then he wouldn’t follow through; at least, not right way. After high school, he joined the Marine Corps, which is where he is now. Wh … More
Some have said that Leviticus is the most boring book of the Bible. This is easy to think unless you see how Christ is on every page of Leviticus. Like no Old Testament Book, Leviticus is filled with pictures of Christ. In Genesis, we see humanity ruined by the fall. In Exodus we see God’s chosen people redeemed from bondage. In Leviticus, God’s people are revived through worship. We could say that Leviticus is a manual on worship.
We can see Christ in the offerings. Chapters 1-7 - Each offering was a type of Christ.
I. THE BURNT OFFERING - Chapter 1
Twice daily the priest offered animals as the blood was sprinkled on the altar and the body was burned. This shows how Christ was wholly offered for us. This offering was laid on the altar and was completely consumed in fire and smoke (vv. 1-9). The Burnt offering pictures Jesus Christ offering Himself to His Father in complete obedience and surrender.
It was not the size of the animal that was acceptable to the Lord (v. 3), it was the attitude of the worshiper. Notice, the individual worshiper must present it (v. 3), and the person had to touch the animal (v. 4). At that moment there was an exchange: a transaction was made. As we bring our gift to the altar today, and present it of our own accord, we are not making atonement for our sin, no payment can be made for that, yet a transaction is being made. In a very tangible way we are expressing our love to God!Application
Am I willing to put my all on the altar for the Lord? When I do the Lord will be well pleased (v. 13).
Leviticus 1:1-9 (English Standard Version)
The LORD called Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, "Speak to the people of Israel and say to them, When any one of you brings an offering to the LORD, you shall bring your offering of livestock from the herd or from the flock. "If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish. He shall bring it to the entrance of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before the LORD. He shall lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. Then he shall kill the bull before the LORD, and Aaron's sons the priests shall bring the blood and throw the blood against the sides of the altar that is at the entrance of the tent of meeting. Then he shall flay the burnt offering and cut it into pieces, and the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. And Aaron's sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, the head, and the fat, on the wood that is on the fire on the altar; but its entrails and its legs he shall wash with water. And the priest shall burn all of it on the altar, as a burnt offering, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the LORD."
