A fellow went into a fried chicken franchise to get some chicken for himself and the young lady with him. By mistake the manager handed the guy a box in restaurant he had placed the financial proceeds of the day instead of the box of chicken. He was going to make a deposit and ha … More
There are many who say, “You can trust me!” But the real question is, can they be trusted (v. 6)? Solomon tries to find an honest man. Many people seem honest. They say the right words. But when Solomon inquires further, these people disappoint Solomon. Everybody does wrong things. Our children are like mirrors; they reflect our attitudes in life” (v. 7). We need to be careful as to the attitudes we feed our children. The diet for our child’s mind is just as important and the diet for our child’s body. We need to feed our children with the best and most positive ideas and opinions that we can. When rulers decide cases, they weigh the evidence (v. 8). A human judge does not allow lies in his court. He does not allow any evil behavior in his court. In the same way, God punishes all our evil actions (Revelation 20:13-15). Nobody can lie to God. He knows everything (1 John 3:20).
Can any of us really say, “My thoughts are pure, and my sins are gone” (v. 9)? No one is without sin. As soon as we confess our sin and repent, sinful thoughts and actions begin to creep back into our lives again. That is why we are in constant need of cleansing, moment by moment (I John 1:9). Unequal measures testify to the lack of integrity on the part of many and is evil in the sight of the Lord (v. 10). Fifteen ounces will never make a pound; thirty-five inches will never make a yard and if I work only 7 ½ hours what right do I have to charge my employer for 8 hours. One evidence of a persons spiritual and moral values is how honest he is in his business dealings.Application
Lord, help me to always be honest with you and in my dealings with every man!
Proverbs 20:6-10 (English Standard Version)
Many a man proclaims his own steadfast love, but a faithful man who can find? The righteous who walks in his integrity-- blessed are his children after him! A king who sits on the throne of judgment winnows all evil with his eyes. Who can say, "I have made my heart pure; I am clean from my sin"? Unequal weights and unequal measures are both alike an abomination to the LORD.
