Act Like a Lady

A dignified-looking, middle-aged gentleman decided to take advantage of a special sale and buy his wife a pair of nylons. After waiting an hour on the fringe of a screaming, pushing mob of women, he plunged toward the counter with both arms flying. Suddenly a shrill voice hollered out, “Can’t you act like a gentleman?” “I’ve been acting like a gentleman for over an hour and it got me nowhere,” he replied, “Now, I’m going to act like a lady!"  (Encyclopedia of Illustrations #13231).
