Numbers – Wilderness Wanderings

Whoever told you Numbers is a boring book sold you a wooden nickel. Some of the most challenging experiences and lessons for every day life found in the Bible are contained in the book of Numbers, with the wilderness wanderings of the people of Israel from Mount Sinai to the plains of Moab. Lou Nicholes in these daily devotional messages will point out many themes that are woven throughout the book. These include God’s faithfulness and human failures, God’s guidance and human stubbornness, God’s purpose and human disobedience, God’s provision and human complaints and God’s holiness and human sinfulness. Numbers also gives a clear example of God’s patience. Again and again He withholds judgment and preserves the nation. But His patience must not be taken for granted, for His time of judgment will come. The events in this book took about forty years and can be outlined as follows:

  1. The preparation for the journey (Chapters 1-10).
  2. The wilderness wanderings (Chapters 11-20).
  3. The journey to Canaan (Chapters 21-36).
