Surrender

Asa, son of Abijah, was assessed as a generally good ruler who destroyed the pagan objects of worship and urged compliance with the Lord, His law, and the commandment. Asa occupied the Davidic throne for 41 years.

Militarily Asa raised an army from Judah and Benjamin of 580,000 brave seamen and bowmen. Zorah, an Ethiopian, came with a vast army and met Asa for battle. Asa knew he was outnumbered approximately two to one (vv. 8-9); he knew that God’s victories did not depend upon the number or strength of men. We see a remarkable display of faith as Asa turned to the Lord and the Lord gave them a great smashing victory. The enemy fled.

Application

Satan is our enemy. Read I Peter 5:8. He wants us to be defeated. But God can give us victory.  I Corinthians 15:57 says, “But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Our victories do not come because of our education or our position in life but in our complete dependence on the Lord. What do I need to turn over to Him that I am trying to handle myself?
