The First Sacrifices Offered by Aaron And His Sons

Thirty years ago, the Miami Dolphins embarked on an unforgettable & unparalleled season. 14-0 regular season, then a 3-0 run through the playoffs culminating with a Super Bowl victory. No other team has matched that perfect record. Every year 30-some odd teams try, but for 3 … More

Dedication

Moses called together Aaron, his sons, and Israel’s leaders (v. 1). He told them to find a perfect young bull and a ram and offer them to the Lord as a sacrifice for sin (v. 2). They must be a year old and have nothing wrong with them (v. 3), because the Lord will appear today (v. 4). The people were standing in the presence of the Lord (v. 5), Moses said: The Lord has ordered you to do this, so that he may appear to you in all of his glory (v. 6). Aaron, offered the sacrifice just as the Lord has commanded (vv. 7-8). His sons brought him the blood. He dipped a finger in it, smeared some on the four corners of the bronze altar, and poured out the rest at its foot (v. 9). He sent up in smoke the fat, the kidneys, and the lower part of the liver, just as the Lord had commanded Moses (v. 10). Then Aaron burned the skin and the flesh outside the camp (vv. 11-12). They brought him each piece of the animal, including the head, and he burned them all on the altar (v. 13). He washed the insides and sent them up in smoke (v. 14).

Next, Aaron sacrificed a goat for the sins of the people, as he had done with the sacrifice for his own sins (v. 15). and he burned this sacrifice on the altar in the proper way (v. 16). He also presented the grain sacrifice (v. 17). He then killed a bull and a ram as a sacrifice asking the Lord’s blessing on the people (v. 18). Aaron’s sons brought him the blood, and he splattered it against the four sides of the altar (v. 19). His sons placed all the fat on top of the choice ribs (v. 20). Then Aaron burned this on the altar and lifted up the ribs and the right hind leg to show that they were dedicated (v. 21). Aaron gave the people his blessing, before coming down from the bronze altar (v. 22). Then he and Moses gave the people their blessing (v. 23). The Lord burned up everything on the altar, and everyone fell to their knees to worship the Lord (v. 24).
