Prayer

Other clans of Judah:

      1.   The descendants of Judah (vv. 1-23).

Jacob prophesied that the fourth son of Solomon, Judah (v. 1) would become the leader of the Israelites. David’s branch of descendants was of great interest to the writer because of his interest in Judah. Jabez prayer (vv. 9-10) was special because it shows that prayer and a prayer answering God can overcome the threat of evil..

The writer may have listed Simeon’s descendants next because his tribe shared the same territory God gave to Judah. The Judahites absorbed many of them through intermarriage soon after settlement in the land.
