The Value of True Religion to a Nation

“No sermon is of any value, or likely to be useful, which has not the three R’s in it: ruin by the fall, redemption by Christ, and regeneration by the Holy Spirit.” (Sermon Central staff) … More

Values

1.    Babylonian Exiles Who Returned to Jerusalem (vv. 1-9). The people of Judah were taken to Babylon as prisoners because they sinned against God. When they returned there were 690 people from the Judah tribe who settled in Jerusalem.

2.     Priests Who Settled in Jerusalem (vv. 10-13). These men listed here were heads of their households, made up of 1,760 capable men to do the religious work of God’s house.

3.     Levites Who Settled in Jerusalem (vv. 14-16). Levi had three sons: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. The Levites may be divided into four groups: the priestly Kohathites, the non-priestly Kohathites, the Gershonites and the Merarites.

4.   Temple Guards Who Settled in Jerusalem (vv. 17-27). There were a total of 212 guards. There was one full-time guard appointed to each of the four sides of the temple. Every seven days a new group of them would take a turn at guard duty. The other guards were responsible for the rooms in the temple and the supplies kept there.

5.   Duties of the Levites (vv. 28-34). Some of the Levites were responsible for the equipment used in worship at the temple. Others were responsible for the temple furnishings and sacred supplies. Then Levite family leaders were the musicians and lived at the temple.

6.    King Saul’s Family (vv. 35-44). Jeiel settled in Gibeon. He and his wife Micah had ten sons. Some of them lived in Jerusalem. Ner was the father of Kish and the grandfather of Saul. Saul had four sons: Jonathan, Malchishua, Abinasab and Eshbaal.

Application

Every person is very important in their family tree and I will have to give an account for the responsibilities God has given me to carry out in this life as His child.
