A Dream For Youth Reachout (Short-term) Missions

In 1973 I was the Regional director for Word of Life Clubs in the Midwest Region of the US and Wayne Lewis, a co- worker, asked me go with him on a short-term missions trip to St John Newfoundland. The Lord worked in a wonderful way and it was such a life changing experience that for the next 15 years my wife and I wanted to be involved in this type of ministry. We dreamed about it and approached our leaders every year to see if it was possible but it was not until 1988 that Jack Wyrtzen gave us permission to launch its short-term missions program called “Youth Reachout.” However during this time period the Lord blessed the Club ministry in which we were involved in as thousands of young people made decisions for Christ, hundreds went into full time ministry and 262 Bible Clubs were established in churches.
