D.L. Moody Asks a Lady for $2000.00

Dwight L. Moody, the great evangelist, was calling with a certain minister, on a wealthy lady, to ask her help in a building operation. On the way over, Moody asked the minister what sum he had in mind. “Oh,” said the pastor, “perhaps $250.” “Better let me handle the matter,” suggested the evangelist. “Madam,” said Moody, after the usual introductions, “we have come to ask you for $2,000 toward the building of the new Mission.” The lady threw up her hands in horror. “Oh, Mr. Moody!” she exclaimed, “I couldn’t possibly give more than $1,000!” And the pair walked away with a check for that sum.
