A Greek student in Athens, Greece, was sentenced to eight months imprisonment on charges of marrying two women within 48 hours. He appealed the sentence and was set free pending a new trial. The court heard that Petros Novaras, 29, married Vassiliki Chioti on Jan 24, 1971, in the … More

Adultery

The marriage relationship is the highest and most sacred of human relations. It takes priority over every other human obligation. This relationship between a husband and wife was instituted in the garden of Eden - “Therefore shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24).

"Thou shalt not commit adultery” (v. 13) means, Thou shalt not be unfaithful to the marriage obligations.  Once a man and woman are married they become one flesh and this if for life (Mark 10:8-9). Just as the marriage vow states, “For better or for worse, until death do us part.” It doesn’t say until we find someone we like better and get a divorce. It is sad how man Christians ignore and twist the Scripture to make it say divorce is O.K.  Verses 11-12 of Mark 10 make it plain that they live in adultery.

Matthew 5:28 also states that adultery is not limited to the physical relationship but also reaches to the passions behind the act. It states “that whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart."

Application

I need to pray that the Lord will help me to have a hedge of protection around myself and keep me pure in my physical relationships. There is not a one of us who could not easily fall in this area of our life.

Exodus 20:14-14 (English Standard Version)
