His Mercy Endures Forever
May 1, 2022
Commentary
Let’s continue where we left off yesterday with 6 more reasons we need to praise the Lord:
4. For what He did with the firstborn in Egypt (vv. 10-12).
Think of smiting the first born. The baby in the crib, the boy at school, the grown man in the field, the old grandfather in his bed. It could have been everyone. This stroke of doom did not come until He had manifested to Pharaoh both His pity and His power nine times. What mercy! This only proves that in wrath God remembers His mercy.
5. For what He did in redeeming Israel from bondage (vv. 13-15).
When Pharaoh hardened his heart for the last time and readied his chariots to pursue Israel, the mighty arm of God was outstretched to bar his way (vv. 13-15). The Shekinah glory cloud came and stood between Israel and Egypt’s army. Then followed the greatest miracle of the Exodus: the waters of the Red Sea parted so that this saved people might pass over on dry land to the other side.
6. For the way in which He led them through the wilderness, into the promise land (vv. 16-22).
God was responsible for bringing down the most powerful rulers in the world just as a giant oak tree would shake off its leaves in the breeze. Sihon and Gog were no match for God.
7. For His Grace in times of calamity (vv. 23-24).
8. For His Grace in the world at large (v. 25).
9. For the fact that God is the God of heaven (v. 26).
Application
It is easy to be complaining because things are not going the way I would like them to. I need to be thankful for the things that are happening in my life whether they be good or bad.
