Commentary

At sunrise on the first day of the week, the women came to the tomb (vv. 1–2). As they walked, they wondered who would roll away the stone (v. 3). When they arrived, they saw that the stone had already been rolled away (v. 4). Inside the tomb, they saw a young man in white, who said, He is risen; he is not here (vv. 5–6). He told them to go and tell the disciples that Jesus had risen and would meet them in Galilee, just as He had promised (v. 7), showing that God had already prepared the way and fulfilled His word completely and faithfully. This moment revealed God’s power and faithfulness beyond all expectations and brought hope to their fearful mind and hearts.

The women were amazed and afraid, and at first they said nothing to anyone (v. 8). They had come expecting to see a dead body, but instead they heard the good news of life. The disciples had been in sorrow, thinking all hope was lost. Only the resurrection could turn their fear into joy and their weakness into courage. This showed that Jesus is truly the Messiah and the Savior of the world, bringing hope, life, and salvation to all who believe in Him, changing hearts and giving new purpose to those who trust Him faithfully each day.

A dead Savior cannot save. The resurrection of Jesus is central to the gospel message. His victory over death proves His power and gives us hope. The message to tell His disciples and Peter shows His grace and love. Even after Peter failed, Jesus re-membered him. This reminds us that Jesus forgives, restores, and calls us back to Him with compassion and faithfulness, offering new beginnings, renewed strength, and a living hope for every believer, encouraging us to follow Him with faith and share this good news with others.

Application

I think about the empty tomb in my life today. Do I truly believe Jesus is alive? Do I trust His promises when I feel uncertain? Am I ready to share this hope with others? Do I trust Your power to guide me? I want to walk in faith, live with confidence, and follow You each day, holding on to Your truth and living with joy and peace.

Mark 16:1–8 (NET)

1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought aromatic spices so that they might go and anoint him. 2 And very early on the first day of the week, at sunrise, they went to the tomb. 3 They had been asking each other, “Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?” 4 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled back. 5 Then as they went into the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. 6 But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has been raised! He is not here. Look, there is the place where they laid him. 7 But go, tell his disciples, even Peter, that he is going ahead of you into Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you.” 8 Then they went out and ran from the tomb, for terror and bewilderment had seized them. And they said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.

Tomb Was Only Needed For a Weekend

It was Joseph who supplied the tomb for Jesus’ burial. Well, it seems that someone pulled him aside and said, “Joseph, that was such a beautiful, costly, hand-hewn tomb. Why on earth did you give it to someone else to be buried in?&rdq … Continue
