Beware of False Teachers in The End Times
March 1, 2020
Commentary
Jesus spoke about a future time of great trouble and warning (vv. 14–21). He referred to “the abomination of desolation, pointing to a time of destruction and danger. He told the people that when they saw these signs, they must flee quickly and not delay. This shows the urgency of His warning. These events reflect both past destruction and a future time of tribulation, reminding us that God’s Word is true and His warnings must be taken seriously with wisdom and readiness, calling us to remain alert and pre-pared in our hearts always.
Jesus described a time of great suffering, greater than any-thing before (vv. 19–20). He also said that for the sake of His people, those days would be shortened. This shows both the serious-ness of judgment and the mercy of God. Even in times of trouble, God remains in control and cares for His people, guiding and protecting them according to His perfect will and purpose, strengthening them to endure.
He then warned about false teachers who would try to deceive many (vv. 21–23). He said, “Take heed: behold, I have foretold you all things” (v. 23). These false teachers may seem convincing, even showing signs and wonders, but they lead people away from the truth. This reminds us to test every teaching carefully, to know and understand God’s Word well, and to stay close to Him so we are not misled.
We must be wise and discerning in what we believe. God calls us to stay alert, remain faithful, and focus on Christ. As we grow in our understanding of Scripture and walk closely with God, we will be able to recognize truth and avoid deception, standing firm in our faith in every season of life, trusting Him completely and holding firmly to His unchanging truth. We must guard our thoughts and hearts carefully.
Application
I consider how I guard my faith each day. Do I stay watchful and careful about what I believe? Am I grounded in God’s Word? Do I depend on Him for discernment? Am I careful to test every teaching I hear? To remain near You, I must stand firm in truth and live with a steady faith that follows what is right.
Mark 13:14–23 (NET)
14 “But when you see the abomination of desolation standing where it should not be” (let the reader understand), “then those in Judea must flee to the mountains. 15 The one on the roof must not come down or go inside to take anything out of his house. 16 The one in the field must not turn back to get his cloak. 17 Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing their babies in those days! 18 Pray that it may not be in winter. 19 For in those days there will be suffering unlike anything that has happened from the beginning of the creation that God created until now, or ever will happen. 20 And if the Lord had not cut short those days, no one would be saved. But because of the elect, whom he chose, he has cut them short. 21 Then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe him. 22 For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, the elect. 23 Be careful! I have told you everything ahead of time.

When we use the term “Prophecy” we are speaking of future events. The time known as “The Tribulation Period” is a seven year period that immediately precedes the return of Christ and the millennial kingdom of His rule which … Continue
