‘Go Into All the World & Preach the Gospel’

Commentary
It is important to remember that our perspective determines how we respond to the truth. If we see a car as only a racing machine, we will fail to use all its potential in carrying goods from one place to another. In the same way, if we fail to see all the wonderful facets of the diamond called Christ’s great commission, we will fail to reflect the fullness of His glorious truth to those who need it most. When Goliath came against Israel, the soldiers all thought, “He’s so big we can never kill him.” David looked at the same giant and thought, “He’s so big I can’t miss.” This truth challenges our limited human perspective daily.
After rebuking the disciples for their unbelief, Jesus gives the great missionary mandate that corresponds with Matthew 28:16–20, “Go into all the world, and preach the Good News to everyone” (v. 15). This command of Jesus makes clear that no person is shut out from the gospel. Everyone is to hear it, with the purpose that all would believe. This mission calls for obedience, urgency, and faithful witness.
THE MOTIVE BEHIND MISSIONS
His resurrection (v. 14) – “after he had been raised…”
His requirement (v. 15) – “Go into all the world…”
Heaven’s riches (v. 16) – “will be saved…”
Hell’s reality (v. 16) – “will be condemned…”
Christianity is the only faith that does not demand that the sinner save himself but looks to the Son of God to save and keep him. We are to live by faith, not by chance, and to trust God, not tempt Him (vv. 17–18). Jesus returned to heaven, and the disciples went out and preached everywhere (vv. 19–20). Their example encourages us to continue this work faithfully with courage, obedience, and wholehearted devotion.
Application
Do I truly believe all people need the gospel, or do I stay comfortable? Who has God placed in my path that I need to share the gospel today? Am I willing to speak, even if I feel afraid? Will I obey His command now, and trust Him with the results? What small step will I take to show God's love today?
Mark 16:15–20 (NET)
15 He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned. 17 These signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands, and whatever poison they drink will not harm them; they will place their hands on the sick and they will be well.” 19 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. 20 They went out and proclaimed everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through the accompanying signs.]]
Billy Sunday Looking For Converts
