God Delivered David Because of His Integrity
March 2, 2022
Commentary
After turning his thoughts from the horrible past David rejoices in who God is:
- A God who is merciful (v. 10) – David prays for the Lord’s mercy and that he will raise him up. He knew that it was because of his great sin that he was in this trouble and that it was only God that could give him another chance to put the affairs of his kingdom in order.
- A God who is mighty (v. 11) – All that David’s enemies had done up to this point was spy on him and plot to kill him. He realized that the reason they did not triumph over him was not because of their unpreparedness or their hesitation to strike but because of His mercy.
- A God who is marvelous (v. 12) – Knowing David’s background and sin many would question how he could ever speak about his integrity. It could only be because David knew that God had not only forgiven him of his sin but He had forgotten it. He had not only canceled the payment for his sin but He had given him His own righteousness. He not only was a forgiven man but he was a justified man. David had actually accepted all of God’s mercy to the point that he could actually speak of “mine integrity.”
Psalms is divided into five books, and each one ends with a doxology, an expression of praise to God (v. 13). This first book of the Psalms (Chap.’s 1-41) covers suffering, sorrow and great joy.
Application
APPLICATION:
God controls all situations and nothing happens without His permission. He has lessons to teach me in my most trying circumstances and will not allow the ungodly to take advantage of my weakness when I am in His hand and plead for mercy.
Psalms 41:10– 13 (NET)
10 As for you, O Lord, have mercy on me and raise me up, so I can pay them back!”
11 By this I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
12 As for me, you uphold me because of my integrity; you allow me permanent access to your presence.
13 The Lord God of Israel deserves praise in the future and forevermore. We agree! We agree!
