God Will be Exalted Throughout The Earth

Commentary
The words in this passage appear to be addressed, not to the enemy, but to Israel herself. The citizens of Jerusalem have been invited to view the remains of their enemies that they may see the mighty power of God in their behalf (v. 8). He had completely destroyed His enemy (v. 9). All of the offensive weapons of the enemy were no match for God. Their weapon of warfare, which was largely used by the Assyrians, was completely destroyed by the power of His might. The Psalmist exhorts the saints to observe the mighty deeds of God. These deeds show how God brings peace to His people, destroying weapons throughout the earth. The bows, spears and chariots are destroyed as He puts an end to war (v. 9).
The command is to let go and let God do the work (vv. 10-11). It is so easy for us to get in the way, even when we have the best of intentions. As I get older I am more and more convinced that God’s work is greatly hindered because we have our ideas of how things should be run and refuse to get out of the way and let God accomplish His purpose. I have seen this happen several times in local church situations when a pastor retires and he still tries to run things after the new pastor takes over. It will soon destroy a church.
What joy is brought to our hearts when we are confronted with a problem which doesn’t seem to have any solution, and yet God works it out for our good. If we fail to look at God and His Word, or fail to seek His face in prayer, He will seem smaller and weaker in our view. On the other hand, the more we study about Him and pray the more He will help us and the more we will know He is God.
Application
I know that true peace comes from trusting God and not trying to be a problem solver myself.
Psalms 46:8– 11 (NET)
8 Come, Witness the exploits of the Lord, who brings devastation to the earth.
9 He brings an end to wars throughout the earth. He shatters the bow and breaks the spear; he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Stop your striving and recognize that I am God. I will be exalted over the nations! I will be exalted over the earth!”
11 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies is on our side! The God of Jacob is our stronghold! (Selah)
