God’s View of The Human Race

Topic: Worldliness
Passage: Psalms 53:1–6

December 2, 2019

Commentary

If you read Psalm 14 and compare it to this Psalm you will find a lot of similarities. Psalm 53 is a sermon that instructs us about a man in his rebellion and apostasy (vv. 1-3). We are living in a day of all types of corruption and immorality. It has been stated that every tenth baby in America is born out of wedlock. A new case of venereal disease is contracted every 16 seconds. Pornography is big business. The forces of atheism are marching around the world. Over two billion people (1/3rd of the world’s population), in the past few years, have lived under regimes which have atheism as their political and religious system. Even in America, which was founded on Christian principles, we have had people like Madelyn Murray O’Hare who was successfully able to put the Bible and prayer out of our public schools and other places.

David expresses his anticipation of the destruction of the wicked (vv. 4-5). The day is rapidly approaching when the human race will abandon all moral principles, and God will abandon the human race to every type of sin. At that point in time sinful man will be ready to embrace the beast, the false prophet and the man of sin. David expresses a yearning for the establishment of God’s kingdom (v. 6). It seems that the Lord is still taking one last look at the world He is about to judge.

Application

Some of the ways the world is trying to press me into its mold are the TV, the computer, bill-boards, the stock market, worldly pleasures etc. I continually need to ask the Lord to help me from being caught up in this world’s system?

Psalms 53:1– 6 (NET)

1 Fools say to themselves, “There is no God.” They sin and commit evil deeds; none of them does what is right.

2 God looks down from heaven at the human race, to see if there is anyone who is wise and seeks God.

3 Everyone rejects God; they are all morally corrupt. None of them does what is right, not even one!

4 All those who behave wickedly do not understand — those who devour my people as if they were eating bread, and do not call out to God.

5 They are absolutely terrified, even by things that do not normally cause fear. For God annihilates those who attack you. You are able to humiliate them because God has rejected them.

6 I wish the deliverance of Israel would come from Zion! When God restores the well-being of his people, may Jacob rejoice, may Israel be happy!
