The Man On a Red Horse

Commentary
In a single night Zechariah saw a series of eight visions which were interpreted by an angel and described the future of the nation Israel. All eight visions occurred on one night and constitutes a unit of revelation. The source of Zechariah’s visions is clearly given in the phrase “the Word of the Lord came” (v.1). God is telling Zechariah something that he must tell his people. It is to encourage them in their work for God.
The first vision can be divided into three parts:
- The time of the vision (v.7) – The 24th day of the eleventh month.
- The details of the vision (vv.8-12) – What Zechariah saw.
- The promise of the vision (vv.13-17). What God is going to bring to pass.
