This Reveals The Lord’s Glory in His Coming For us
March 1, 2021
Commentary
We are told that the Earth is the Lord’s (v. 1). It is certainly true that every nook and cranny is His, but there is one spot to which he lays special claim and that is the land of Israel. The Palestinian Arabs and the P.L.O. say it belongs to them, but it doesn’t. It belongs to God, and he has deeded it to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, not Ishmael; to the Jew and not the Arab. No world conference or summit meeting of the superpowers is going to change that. The land of Israel is God’s land. Glory!!! This psalm is not only a battle cry for the church, but it also looks forward to Christ’s future entry into the new Jerusalem to reign forever (Rev. 19;11-21). It reveals the Lord’s glory in His coming for us:
1. The Glory in creation (vv. 1-2). The world today is in turmoil because of sin, but the creator will one day set His creation free (Rom. 8:18-23).
2. The Glory in salvation (vv. 3-6). Nobody but the Lord can meet God’s qualifications to live in His Holy place. He will forgive us and let us live with Him forever.
3. The Glory in the kingdom (vv. 7-10). These verses probably celebrated David’s return to Jerusalem from a great victory, but they speak to us of our King of glory.
As these ancient Israelites began to ascend the hill to Jerusalem they joyously sang “Lift up your heads, oh ye gates; and be lifted up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of Glory shall come in.” They continue to sing, “Who is the King of Glory?” and answer “The Lord strong and mighty.” It is a fact that the Lord is not only glorious; He is the King of glory. He is the greatest in glory and He is “over all”. He is eternally blessed by God the Father (Rom. 9:5).
Application
I want to be able to praise the lord in the glory of His creation, the glory of His salvation and the glory of his presents as He comes to set up His kingdom. I believe that the very next thing to happen on God’s timetable is the rapture of His Church and I’m ready.
Psalms 24:1– 10 (NET)
1 The Lord owns the earth and all it contains, the world and all who live in it.
2 For he set its foundation upon the seas, and established it upon the ocean currents.
3 Who is allowed to ascend the mountain of the Lord? Who may go up to his holy dwelling place?
4 The one whose deeds are blameless and whose motives are pure, who does not lie, or make promises with no intention of keeping them.
5 Such godly people are rewarded by the Lord, and vindicated by the God who delivers them.
6 Such purity characterizes the people who seek his favor, Jacob’s descendants, who pray to him. (Selah)
7 Look up, you gates. Rise up, you eternal doors. Then the majestic king will enter.
8 Who is this majestic king? The Lord who is strong and mighty. The Lord who is mighty in battle.
9 Look up, you gates. Rise up, you eternal doors. Then the majestic king will enter.
10 Who is this majestic king? The Lord of Heaven’s Armies. He is the majestic king. (Selah)
