Attempt to Justify Divorce

Many years ago a Christian friend of mine came to me in deep sorrow sharing that his wife was thinking about divorcing him. Over a period of time and after many counseling sessions she did divorce him. Prior to and during this time he held a very strict view on marriage. He held that the relationship was “till death do us part.” However, his personal experience began to effect his doctrine, and soon he began to modify his position and justify his divorce on biblical grounds and eventually he remarried. I have found that generally speaking, Christians who divorce and remarry attempt to justify their right to do so by the Word of God. Often they appeal to the words of Matthew 19:9 to explain and justify their actions. (Lou Nicholes - Missionary/Author).
