The chapter begins with a request for prayer (vv. 1-2), a word of encouragement concerning God’s faithfulness (vv. 3-4) and a short prayer (v. 5). Evidently Paul had heard that the Thessalonians were praying for him, and he asks them to keep on doing that. His request is twofold. First, he asks them to keep on praying that the gospel may have rapid and triumphant course (v. 1). Second, his request is for deliverance (v. 2).
Paul was asking for deliverance from the particular enemies who were giving him trouble at that time. However, his first concern was for his converts. He assures them that God’s faithfulness will keep them from “evil” (v. 3). Paul prays that the believers may realize fully what God’s love for them means and in return love Him more. Also Paul prays that their hearts may be directed into the steadfastness of Christ (vv. 4-5). In other words, he is asking that they might reproduce endurance in the face of trials like Christ did.
Too much Christian work these days is accomplished by human plans and promotion, and not by the preaching and teaching of the Word of God in the power of the Holy Spirit. The best way to face the trials of life is to:

I need to be more concerned about brothers in Christ that are going through trials? I could start by writing notes letting them know someone cares. Also I can add them to my prayer list.
