The Conditions For Gaining Wisdom

Bill Gates in his book The Road Ahead, makes this prediction: “When tomorrow’s powerful information machines are connected on the computer highway . . . you’ll be able to stay in touch with anyone, anywhere, who wants to stay in touch with you; to browse through any of thous … More

Conditions

If we as Christians are going to have wisdom I see this passage laying down six conditions that will result in six blessings (promises). Notice the CONDITIONS laid out in the first four verses:

  1. Receive my words (v. 1).
  2. Treasure my instructions (v. 1).
  3. Incline your ear (v. 2).
  4. Apply your heart (v. 2).
  5. Cry out for discernment (v. 3).
  6. Seek for hidden treasures (v. 4).

If these conditions are met BLESSINGS will be sure to follow as outlined in the next five verses:

  1. You will understand the fear of the Lord (v. 5).
  2. You will gain knowledge and understanding of God (vv. 5-6).
  3. The Lord will grant you wisdom (v. 6).
  4. He will grant good sense to the godly (v. 7).
  5. He will give protection to those who walk with integrity (vv. 7-8).
  6. He will give understanding as to what is just, right and fair (v. 9).

Application

If blessing comes from what I glean from these conditions I need to be applying them in my daily life and sharing this with others. Then I need to be encouraging others in my family to do the same.

Proverbs 2:1-9 (English Standard Version)

For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding; he stores up sound wisdom for the upright; he is a shield to those who walk in integrity, guarding the paths of justice and watching over the way of his saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice and equity, every good path....
