God’s Commission to Joshua – Joshua 1:1 – 1:18

When John F. Kennedy was shot

In 1963, while I was driving Jack Wyrtzen from Dayton to Youngstown, Ohio for an evening youth rally the announcement came over the car radio that President John F. Kennedy had been shot.  After the initial shock I remember, of anxiously, wondering if the Vice-President Lyndon Johnson could pick up the mantle of the fallen leader. I imagine the  people of Israel have felt much the same way as it was announced that Moses was dead and Joshua was their new leader. (Lou Nicholes, Joshua, Conquest of the Promised Land, 2004).
