Confussion With The Gas Bill
For nearly a year Laddie Marshack had a running correspondence with the gas company. One month she would get a note informing her she had underpaid her bill; the next that she had overpaid. Finally, the whole thing was cleared up. She received a card containing several standard reasons for the irregularities in accounts, such as “Signature incomplete” and “Payee not this company.” None, however, applied to her. On the back of the card a note was written in pencil: “You have been paying the date—please pay the amount.” (Los Angeles Times).
