The Altar of Inscense

A woman says, “I am the one who makes it.” A man says, “I am the one who eats it.” And feminists groups say “discrimination” as in the case of this television commercial for instant noodles. The groups filed a protest with the noodle company, saying … More

Discrimination

* The altar for burning Incense (vv. 1-10). This stood inside the tabernacle, in the room with the lampstand and the table of showbread and was the last piece to which the High-Priest came before he entered the Holy of Holies.

* The money for the Sacred Tent (vv. 11-16). Whenever a census took place everyone, both rich and poor, was required to pay a ransom. There is no way the rich person can buy off God, and no way the poor can avoid paying. God’s demand is that all of us come humbly before Him to be forgiven and brought into His family.

* The large Bronze Bowl (vv. 17-21). This was put between “The altar for Sacrifice” and “The Sacred Tent” This was for the purpose of washing the hands and feet before engaging in priestly duties and there was a warning of death if this washing is neglected.

* The oil for dedication and ordination (vv. 22-33). This was to be measured according to official standards and used for dedicating the tent and chest. This must always be used in the ordination of a priest and never used for everyday purposes.

* The sweet-smelling incense (vv. 34-38). This sweet-smelling incense was burned in shallow dishes called censers, at “The altar of incense,” and was used to show honor and reverence to God. This incense was so holy that the people were strictly forbidden to use it for personal use.

Application

Since there is no way for me to purchase favor with God and no way to avoid paying the penalty for my sins I am so thankful that the Lord paid for all of my sins though His shed blood on the cross.
