The People Are Invited to Rejoice in God

At one point during a game, the coach said to one of his young players, “Do you understand what cooperation is? What a team is’ The little boy nodded in the affirmative. “Do you understand that what matters is whether we win together as a team?” The little … More

Emotional

Keep in mind that when Hezekiah came to the throne the temple was in poor condition. Hezekiah’s father, King Ahaz, had defiled it by replacing the brazen altar of God with a heathen altar. When Hezekiah became king things changed because he loved God. The love of God changes things as it:

  1. Promotes worship (v. 9). As soon as Hezekiah became king he cleansed and restored the temple. The place where they met God became important. In the midst of his troubles we find him in the temple seeking direction from God.
  2. Promotes witness (v. 10). Probably the most talked about subject in Judea and all the countries around it was how God delivered Jerusalem. You can be sure that Hezekiah showed his emotions by making it known that this miracle was because of God’s love.

Many of us think there is something wrong about letting our feelings show, whether they be feelings of joy or sorrow. This was not the case with the Jews. When the judgment of God came upon the Assyrians they had something to shout about and they got emotional about it (v. 11). After an army had unsuccessfully besieged Jerusalem, it was important for the people to make a tour of the city praising God for the protection it had experienced (vv. 12-14). Reviewing the city, they are reminded that the Lord is their high tower forever and that He will guide them forever. More importantly, they are to tell of these things of God to the next generation.” We need to do this today!

Application

Thoughts about God’s protection should inspire me to worship Him. Also thoughts about His love should cause me to want to witness for him. When I think of the great victory Christ has won for me I would do well to get emotional about it.
